OK, PC running Vista 32 Logged into a NT Domain with no problem Attempting to print to a HP Inkjet 2200. I can browse the network, find the print server, find the printer, attach to the printer just fine. can see the print que just fine Can't print to it. Can't print a test page from the printers-properties page. I get an error 'test Page Failed to Print. I can also configure the printer to print directly to it's HP JetDirect adapter's IP address.
Same results. I can see the printer and it's que, but can't print to it.
Any ideas?

Cannot print to network printer
Update....
the Inkjet 2200 I was trying to print to is using an older model HP JetDirect adapter, a model 170X.
i've since successfully configured 4 other HP printers that have internal JetDirect adapters, and I can print to all of them just fine by configuring the printer to use the IP address.
Perhaps it's just a compatability issue with the older external 170X adapter.

I just set up my HP 4500, which I run through a Linksys print server without any HP Jet stuff. The setting I had to change was from RAW to LPR and use LPT1 as a Queue. I also use a TCP/IP port with the number on the print server.

Thanks for the suggestion and the link.
I'm now at home with another system running Vista 32, and I'm running into the same thing trying to print to a HP Business Inkjet 2230 using a Netgear PS101 print server.
I can open Windows Explorer, Click on network and I can see the print server listed as well as the Vista 32 PC and my other PC. I can drill into the print server and will go through the usual steps. It can detect what kind of printer is attached and I can choose from the list of printer drivers, the correct one from HP.
Everything seems to proceed just fine, I can open the printer and see nothing is in the que, but when I tell it to print a test page i get an error (sorry don't remember the exact words).
In other words, it's acting just like the article states that you provided the link to. It acts as though for some reason the printer is 'read-only'.
The login account I use does have a password, but even tho, I did issue the command as stated in the article.
No change.
hmmm.
Perhaps when I get a chance I'll try hooking the printer directly to the Vista 32 PC with a parallel cable and see if that works.

Yes Clark, I saw your post as well, thanks.
Unfortunately, I did try what you suggested , but it still gives me the same error message, 'Test Page Failed to Print'.
Now I have a HP JetDirect (external) attached to it, and I CAN see it when I go to add a printer and choose to browse for a printer.
I WAS going to just connect the printer straight to the Vista PC with a old-fashioned parallel cable till I remembered that the system I have Vista on doesn't have any old legacy connectors.
Perhaps I'll look at the network print servers listed in Vista and buy one of those to experiment with.

I have two primary partitions, one with xp professional sp2 and the other with vista beta 2 x64 version.
I am facing the problem of no "test prints" coming out from my HP Deskjet 990c when connected through a printer server when in vista but prints fine when in xp professional. When I click on properties of the printer icon, under ports, everything is greyed out, so I cannot configure the port at all.
I had tried running the commands "net localgroup users guest /add" with the following error messages:
System error 5 has occurred.
Access is denied.
I'm logged into vista as an administrator, with password, so I'm not sure what is causing the problem.
Another issue I faced while creating the net printer was not I wasn't able to find the printer if I do a "add a printer" through network. I only managed to add the printer through windows explorer "network".
Thanks.
